Dawn Strahler

Hi! Welcome to my home page. This is just a short idea of who I am, with some pictures and links related to my life.
My exciting news is I got married and had a baby! So yeah, this page isn't updated.

I am now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA with my parents and younger sister. Three of my friends and I bought a house in Sunnyvale, CA, which we call Alpine Butterfly Lodge.
I am currently working at Intuitive Surgical as a Staff Quality Engineer. Please see my resume to learn more about my previous experience.
I graduated from Harvey Mudd College, one of the Claremont Colleges. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering. Being a female engineer, I am proud to be a member of the Society of Women Engineers. I passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) which makes me an official Engineer-In-Training (EIT), the first step to becoming a Professional Engineer. I have also passed the Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) exam, and am a member of the American Society for Quality. I went to Santa Barbara High School.
One of my interests is dancing. Most recently, I have been learning square dance with El Camino Reelers. I have taken ballroom and latin dance classes, learned contra dancing, country dances, and victorian dances. I would sometimes go to the Gaskell Balls, before they stopped having them. I've also done contact improvisation.
Another interest I have is rock climbing. I have been going to Planet Granite in Santa Clara/ Sunnyvale since September 1999. I have learned how to lead climb and set anchors, but I haven't been climbing much outdoors. PG offers yoga, so I've been doing yoga since June 2006, although not as much recently. I also did some CrossFit there intermittently 2008 to 2015.
I took aerial rope and aerial silk/tissue classes at Trapeze Arts in Oakland May 2006 to March 2007. I went to an aerial arts class at AcroSports September-December 2008. I took and aerial conditioning class Fall 2010 at Circus Center, and a rope class in Fall 2011. Although I have great fun, I doubt I will ever be good enough to run off and join the circus!
I took some dance-climb fusion workshops in 2007 from AscenDance Project, which is really fun, and just my sort of thing.
My current interest is AcroYoga, and I started taking some classes at Yoga Belly in April 2017.

We had PV solar panels put in by REgrid Power in March 2005, and they did a great job. They also installed our solar thermal pool heating system in 2009, but that is not their expertise.
We were participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) from 2001 to about 2018, and really liked our weekly box of vegetables from Two Small Farms (Mariquita Farms and High Ground Organics), but have not been quite as good about getting through the box recently. At the end of 2009, we also had an all fruit CSA for a year, Frog Hollow Farm, which was nice.
We used to get our homemade bread from The Flour Smith, before she decided to work for a larger bakery.

I was doing a little bit of Tai Chi off and on November 2001 to November 2006.

Some of my housemates and I are fans of Joss Whedon and hence Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and spent 2006 watching all 7+5 seasons. Firefly and Dr. Horrible are of course fabulous as well.
We also really enjoyed the Peter Jackson films The Lord of the Rings.
I don't have a television, but some of the shows I like: Bones, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, North & South.
